10 Worst Dog Foods And What We Recommend Feeding Your Dog – Royal Canin –

Founded in 1968, The Royal Canin brand is one of the largest dog food brands in the country. Royal Canin offers hundreds of dog food products. Each product line specialises in particular life stage, breed size, or health needs.

Royal Canin produces particularly specific recipes for specific breed. Unfortunately, when you take a closer look, these dog food formulas are only slightly different from each other. A second concern is about the low quality carbohydrates and by-products they include. Many Royal Canin dog foods mention an animal by-product as the primary source of protein,  yet it is not always the main ingredient. Corn and wheat appear first in many recipes.

Royal Canin does use chelated minerals in its dog recipes, but it’s not sufficient to compensate for the other poor quality ingredients. On the whole, Royal Canin is not a brand of high quality dog food.

Recall Info: Concerns about dog food melamine contamination induced several recalls of Royal Canin products in recent years. There were two recalls in 2007 and a recall in February due to above-normal levels of vitamin D3.

Problem Ingredients: wheat gluten, digested fish protein, hydrolyzed yeast,  corn gluten meal,  chicken by-product meal, brewers rice, corn, wheat gluten, artificial flavors, corn gluten meal, conservation agents.
