10 Worst Dog Foods And What We Recommend Feeding Your Dog – Diamond –

Diamond Pet Food Company is owned by Schell & Kampeter. You will find their products under three  lines: Diamond, Diamond Naturals and Diamond Naturals Grain-Free.

While the Diamond Naturals and Diamond Naturals Grain-Free product lines are decent enough, the original line of Diamond dog foods is not recommended. This specific line of dog food is advertised as « highly digestible, super premium without the premium price », but that is very misleading.

A thoughtful review of several Diamond dog food products clearly shows the use of wheat, corn, and soy, often among the top three ingredients (sometimes in the first place). Also, Diamond dog foods are very rich in carbohydrates and they also use above-average plant protein concentrations. You will find also that they use several unidentified meat-based ingredients such as « fish meal »… and other questionable by-products meat.

One good point though: Diamond dog food does use chelated minerals in some specific dog food and they do not include as many artificial colors and flavors as many other brands. Nevertheless, if a dog food brand uses a lot of corn, wheat and soy products, as responsible dog owner you should avoid it.

Recall Info: The Diamond Pet Food Company has been affected by many recalls in recent years. Several recalls have been issued due to concerns about salmonella contamination in some batches of dog food.

Yet a recent recall in 2012 has touched over a dozen different products of this line.

Problem Ingredients: wheat flour, rice bran, meat meal, corn gluten meal, poultry by-product meal, whole grain ground corn,
