7- Hill’s Science Diet
Although Hill’s Science Diet is advertised as a top choice by many veterinarians, these recommendations are at least weak. While Hill’s produces a large variety of dog food brands, it can not be considered as one of the best brands in terms of quality.
The Hill’s Science Diet brand is produced by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc. and you can easily find it in pet stores and veterinary practices across the country. The Hill’s Science Diet brand produces a wide variety: dog food for puppies, adult and senior dogs as well as dog food for small-breed and large-breed dogs.
They have also created special recipes for certain dog health problems.
But, a close review of the list of ingredients in many Hill’s Science Diet products, will show you that these dog food lines are not so different. You will also notice that many of them are loaded with low-quality ingredients. For example, many Science Diet dog food products mention a carbohydrate as their first and primary ingredient. Besides, most recipes involve corn, soy and wheat products.
Recall Info: The Hill’s Science Diet brand of dog food has been recalled several times: in 2007 regarding melamine concerns and in 2014 for potential salmonella contamination.
Besides, some of Science Diet’s dog food products were voluntarily withdrawn by the company once in 2015 because some labeling issues.
Problem Ingredients: whole wheat, preservatives, brewers rice, soybean meal, whole grain corn, corn gluten meal, pea protein, soybean oil, artificial flavors.
